MEET PANDA - THE COBOT
DESIGN Engineered by FRANKA EMIKA, it is a collaborative robot designed to share workspace with a human worker without the need for caging assuming a risk assessment is performed. It has 7-degrees of freedom with highly integrated mechatronics design, sensitive torque sensors in all 7 joints and human-like kinematics. Combined with soft-robotics-control, Panda is able to recognize and process even the slightest touch by using its artificial reflex system to react within milliseconds.
MARKET SPACE Panda fills the gap of precision small payload robot automation as opposed to large Industrial robots which handle heavier loads, run much faster and require extensive integration options and therefore very high cost. Machine tending would be a common application for Panda. The robot handles the repetitive operation of the application leaving the worker to handle the more critical-human-needed functions such as inspection.
AFFORDABLE Panda was designed with affordability in mind. Very simple to program using either Apps similar to a smartphone or using the open Franka Control Interface(FCI) for the high-level programmers. Integrated safety features and added-safety related functions may eliminate safe-guarding. Deployment of one or multiple robots therefore becomes simple reducing significantly the integration cost.
